Rug Collecting
We started collecting rugs during our first assignment to Islamabad, Pakistan.  The town was full of internationals and the expatriate hobby there was collecting oriental rugs.  We bought a lot of pieces, spanning a range of styles and prices and took them back to DC.  Once home and living with them, our tastes matured and we sold off the less appealing ones.

What's left are primarily tribal geometric rugs from Northern Afghanistan, Iran, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Western China.

When we were recalled to Pakistan in 2002, we put everything into storage and went forth to get just a few more very good pieces.  The three pictures on the bottom right are the latest..  Are these beautiful or what?

A real treasure - an old Baluch room-size rug, unusual for the Beluch who were nomadic.  This indigo blue and cochineal red example is about 150 years old and suitable for a museum.  Maybe it'll go there someday, but not just yet.  We're loving it --------------->>>!
